I don't want to use Asio4All for the reasons discussed elsewhere, and I consider not using ASIO drivers to be a downgrade and only acceptable when mobile recording (with laptop on-board audio) and/or not dependent on live overdubbing, etc. Please assume a desire for live input with monitoring, overdubbing, etc. I started looking into them and was surprised to find that Behringer does not provide native ASIO drivers for their interfaces and instead "provides" Asio4All drivers! I took this is a bad sign and a reason to avoid.īut so often here I've seen the Behringer interfaces being trumpeted as a great option, I'm wondering what the actual experiences have been on this drivers front. The Behringer interfaces offer a hard to ignore economical option for an additional interface for whatever reason, especially in the more than 2 inputs range. You just can't play audio from both apps at the same time but you can certainly alternate between which app is active.There seem to be many posts here mentioning the desirability (or un-) of either of these subjects. You can also select in the preferences inside of Reaper, "Close Audio Device" when Reaper is not the active application, thus when you select another app to play from, then Reaper will close the ports of the ASIO driver for the sound card as long as Reaper is not the active application. Issue 1: no audio despite inputs being recognised by software (Audiobus/AUM etc) Issue 2: occasional stutter in. It is already boxed ready to be returned as it would at times fail to produce audio and I’d get occasional stuttering in the audio. ASIO is more of a professionally used driver, but it is limited to 1 app at a time accessing the sound card. The behringer UMC 404 HD was my latest interface to try and I have to say I’m rather disappointed. Microsoft Sound Mapper is commonly selected by default in other apps because it is most compatible when audio is played from multiple apps, but also provides the worst audio latency problems with the specific app that is using it. Something like WDM, WAVE and Microsoft Sound Mapper drivers don't have this same problem of sharing audio between apps and is likely what the other apps have selected by default. If you want a quick fix, then go into the audio device options inside of Reaper and select a different sound card driver for the UMC-404HD. UMC Control panel buffer shows ASIO not active with Cubase running, so there is no sound (no meters during playback).
